6 Best Dressed Attendees of the 2021 Oscars

Every year movie and fashion lovers alike look forward to the annual Academy Awards, one of the glitziest nights in the award season calendar. Whilst first and foremost a celebration of the achievements of some of the greatest talents in the film industry, the Oscars also serves as a fashion lovers paradise, the inevitable questions of what each nominee will be wearing almost as prominent a topic as who the winners will be.

With the world in the midst of a global pandemic, there were questions as to whether the 2021 Oscars would have a different look, whether we'd be treated to the array of beautiful dresses and outfits we had been in previous years, or whether the whole occasion would fall a little flat.

Thankfully, there was nothing to worry about, with the 2021 Academy Awards providing us with some breathtaking fashion moments well deserving of the red carpet. With so many stunning designs on show, it was hard to narrow down our favourites of the evening, but the six on our Oscars Best Dressed list simply took our breath away.

Carey Mulligan, Valentino

The Promising Young Woman actress certainly turned heads in her stunning gold couture two piece by Valentino. Taking over 350 hours to make, the beautiful gown was worth the time and effort, the embroidered iridescent gold sequins catching the light perfectly to create a glowing, dress worthy of the Academy Awards.

Regina King, Louis Vuitton

Regina King has become renown for her elegant and show-stopping awards season style over the years, and the 2021 Academy Awards was no different. Wearing custom Louis Vuitton, the pale blue flared satin dress with stunning ruffled shoulders, was a powerful statement dress that oozed elegance. Taking over 140 hours to craft, the dress is adorned by over 62,000 sequins, over 8,000 sparkling stones and chained stitching, the delicate detailing making the gown all the more stunning.

Viola Davis, Alexander McQueen

If you've been following Viola Davis this awards season, you'll know that she has been absolutely killing it, from her Lavie by CK dress for the Golden Globes and her Duro Olowu at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards being two of the stand out looks for the award winning actress. When it came to the Oscars, Davis certainly didn't disappoint, in a stunning white dress, the beaded corset and chiffon skirt creating an effortlessly elegant look.

Amanda Seyfried, Giorgio Armani

Inspired by hibiscus flowers, the strapless dress in striking red was designed by none other than Giorgio Armani himself. Making a statement on the red carpet, Seyfried's red tulle gown with deep v neckline was figure hugging at the top, whilst the skirt flared out to create a dramatic and bold silhouette worthy of the Academy Awards. The deep red of the tulle gown was a perfect contrast to the monochrome of the nominee's film, Mank.

Margot Robbie, Chanel

Margot Robbie has, in recent years, become the face of Chanel, featuring in the designers adverts and wearing a variety of Chanel ensembles on red carpets around the world. For the 2021 Oscars, Robbie wore a simple but elegant Chanel design, the floor length, figure hugging floral dress. The sleek black dress was enhanced by silver-foiled floral detail to add a shimmer to the sleeveless dress that caught the lighting and the cameras.

Angela Bassett, Alberta Ferretti

Another striking red ensemble Angela Basset, who presented the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, set the tone for the evening, with her stunning Alberta Ferretti gown. Simplistic in the body, the gown created the perfect figure hugging silhouette, with a thigh high split to create a sleek finish. The large puff sleeves, creating a bow like shape at the top of the dress were the star of the garment, creating a stylish overall look that brought a wow-factor to the overall finished ensemble.
